Director's Cut

Seasons greetings to you all.

Despite the snow coming down in London last weekend, we took a trip out of town for a family get together despite the "don't travel unless your journey is absolutely necessary" advice on the radio and TV.

I made this little road trip movie on a digital compact camera and edited the footage in iMovie. And here's my confession. I've always wanted to try filmmaking—the moving image always seemed the natural progression from the still image. For many a long year, I've harboured those "if only…" thoughts and increasingly dismissed the idea as nothing more than one of those activities of the "what if…" fantasy life that runs in tandem with my own illness-stricken reality.

But there I was, sitting in slow moving traffic, looking at the alien white cityscape through a shimmering grey haze, knowing that the still image camera could never quite capture how I saw the world on that day from the passenger seat of a moving vehicle. But what if, I thought, what if… I used the movie setting on my digicam? And suddenly… I became a filmmaker.

I love this wee film, esp the dreamlike quality at beginning. And you can't go wrong with Lou...
